Following a successful application to the Bournemouth
Children’s
Fund, the Family Support Service is able to offer a new initiative to
children between the ages of 5 and 13 years, who due to disadvantage
or disability
are unable to access mainstream out of school activities.
The Saturday club called SPLAT!! (Saturday
Play & Learn Arts Theatre)
runs on a monthly basis at the North Bournemouth Family Centre and started
in February 2003. There are two age groups, the 5 – 9 year olds meeting
every 2nd Saturday of the month, and the 10 – 13 year olds every
4th Saturday morning.
The project has been put together in partnership with Arts Library and
Museums Services. Professional arts and leisure tutors, some of whom are
disabled themselves run skill-building, themed workshops, designed to assist
children in exploring self-image and identity, self-expression, being valued,
and working together for better inclusion.
